Mandated by the French government, the Powered Two-Wheeler Lane Splitting Experiment began on 2 February 2016, covering motorways and expressways in eleven French departments. The main aim of the experiment was to regulate lane splitting – a widespread practice among PTW riders – and to assess the impact of legalisation and regulation of the technique.
