Local authorities frequently redefine their public spaces to better meet users' needs, giving priority – where possible – to improved travel for the most vulnerable users and those who are most considerate of the environment. However, due to technical and/or financial constraints, a postponed redevelopment project may allow uncomfortable or unsafe situations to persist, more or less permanently, to the detriment of walking. More rarely, works carried out may not always resolve pedestrians' problems observed previously. However, there is often an appropriate solution sufficient to facilitate the daily lives of most pedestrians, without having to redesign entire streets or squares, namely, the micro-planning development.
